Tater Tidbit: Tom Torkelson began farming in 1978. Since then, he and his family have almost quadrupled the size of their farm. They have been growing potatoes for us for nearly a decade!
Sustainable Spud: Tom has participated in our corporate sustainable agriculture program and uses several regenerative practices, including:
🌱 Planting Cover Crops: adds protective cover, carbon-rich matter, and plant diversity that build soil health.
🐝 Maintaining Pollinator Habitats: supports bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
🌷 Practicing edge-of-field management: prevents field runoff to conserve soil and water.
In the past few years, Tom has used our grower grants program to trial cover cropping.
