Tater Tidbit: Brian Sackett and his family have been growing potatoes for over 100 years. With his son Tyler joining the operation in 2014, they are now a sixth-generation farm!
Sustainable Spud: Brian has participated in our corporate sustainable agriculture program and uses several regenerative practices, including:
🌱 Planting Cover Crops: adds protective cover, carbon-rich matter, and plant diversity that build soil health.
🐝 Maintaining Pollinator Habitats: supports bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
💧 Using Soil Moisture Sensors: helps farmers to steward their use of irrigation water.
🌷Practicing edge-of-field management: prevents field runoff to conserve soil and water.
In the past few years, Sackett Potatoes has used our corporate grower grants fund to trial the use of no-till in the crop rotation, and to test a biologicals product to improve nitrogen use efficiency.
