Tater Tidbit: Jason Walther is a third-generation farmer who now grows potatoes with nine other family members including siblings and cousins. They have been supplying us for nearly 10 years!
Sustainable Spud: Walther Farms has participated in our corporate sustainable agriculture program and uses several regenerative practices, including:
🌱 Planting Cover Crops: adds protective cover, carbon-rich matter, and plant diversity that build soil health.
🐝 Maintaining Pollinator Habitats: supports bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
💧 Using Soil Moisture Sensors: helps farmers to steward their use of irrigation water.
🌷 Practicing edge-of-field management: prevents field runoff to conserve soil and water.
In the past few years, Walther Farms has used our grower grants fund to trial legume cover cropping to fix nitrogen and improve soil health.
