Tater Tidbit: James Mortenson of Mortenson Brothers has been growing potatoes for Kettle Brand for over 15 years and comes from a family of farmers, including his father.
Sustainable Spud: James has participated in our corporate sustainable agriculture program and uses several regenerative practices, including:
🌱 Planting Cover Crops: adds protective cover, carbon-rich matter, and plant diversity that build soil health.
🐝 Maintaining Pollinator Habitats: supports bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.
💧 Using Soil Moisture Sensors: helps farmers to steward their use of irrigation water.
🌷Practicing edge-of-field management: prevents field runoff to conserve soil and water.
In the past few years, James has used our grower grants fund to trial soil moisture sensors and new analytical practices to help save on fertilizer use.
